Where the number comes from
This uses the certified ballot rate of 6.95 mills, which the county auditor states as $243 per year for every $100,000 of market total value.
Ohio taxes property at 35% of its market total value — that's your "assessed value." A mill is $1 of
tax per $1,000 of assessed value. So the formula is simply
market total value × 0.35 × (mills ÷ 1,000). There are no multipliers and no
fine print — you can check it against your own county auditor's levy calculator.
Not sure of your home's market total value? Look it up on the Hamilton County Auditor's site (the county auditor's property search) or a recent property tax bill — use the appraised value, not what you think it'd sell for.
Are you 65+ or permanently disabled? The homestead exemption can lower this — tick the box in the calculator to estimate your cost with it applied.
Or look up your exact address
Type your address to see the county auditor's current market total value and this levy's exact cost for your home. Covers single and two-family homes in the Sycamore Community City School District — not apartments, condos, or businesses.
The homestead exemption (65+ or disabled)
If you're 65 or older, or permanently and totally disabled, and your Ohio adjusted gross income is under the state limit (about $40,000 — Social Security generally doesn't count), Ohio's homestead exemption shields part of your home's market total value from all of your property taxes, this levy included. The standard exemption removes about $28,000 of market total value from the calculation; 100%-disabled veterans get roughly double ($58,000).
On this levy, that works out to roughly $68 a year in savings — and it lowers your other property taxes too. Tick the box in the calculator above to see your own estimate.
